What happens after I sign up to be notified of a vacant suite?

Our application process has a number of steps:

Step 1: Complete the on-line form to register your interest in our community and indicate which size suite(s) you may be interested in.

Step 2: When a suite becomes available, the you will receive an e-mail with basic information about the available suite, the move-in date, and a PDF of the application form. If you're interested in applying, complete and submit the application form (note: we usually provide a week for applicants to complete and submit their form). You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free application) to fill out and save the form. The e-mail you receive will include instructions on how to complete and securely submit the form.

Step 3: Our Membership Committee will screen applications and select the top applicants for interviews. The interviews are usually scheduled within a couple of weeks of the application closing date. On the day of the interview, applicants can view the suite. The Membership Committee will recommend the most suitable applicant for membership. The successful applicant will be conditionally offered the suite pending the checks in step 4.

Step 4: Our administrative provider will conduct reference checks, credit checks, and ensure the applicant meets minimum income requirements (unless they are requesting a subsidy). If the applicant passes these checks, our Board of Directors considers the application for membership and formal offer may be made. If accepted by the applicant, the applicant pays the share purchase and becomes a member of the coop.

 

All other applicants will be notified that the suite has been filled. They will continue to be notified of future suite availability.

Is financial aid (subsidy) available?

From time-to-time, the Laura Jamieson Housing Cooperative has access to a number of subsidies through external agencies. Applicants can indicate their financial need when applying, and they may be offered a subsidy if one is available. When a subsidy is available, the vacant suite may be prioritized for a qualified applicant who requires a subsidy.​

When is the registration deadline?

If you're interested in being notified of an available suite, you can  sign-up to be notified.

 

Once notified of a vacant suite and provided an application, you will have a short period of time to submit your application. This is usually about one week and will be made clear in the email you receive with the application form.
