Our Building

The Laura Jamieson Housing Cooperative is located just off Commercial Drive in East Vancouver. We have a four-level wood frame building built in the mid-80's containing one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedrooms suites. We also have a number of amenities for our members.

Suites and Housing Charges

Housing Charges are the monthly fees that go towards the costs of running the Cooperative (similar to rent in a tenant/landlord relationship). They are set annually as part of our budgeting process. All members and committees have input into the budget and the general membership votes on it each year.

An Initial Share Purchase is required of each new member when they join the coop. It is their share in the ownership in the cooperative as a whole; it entitles them to vote at meetings and to occupy a suite within the building. The share is returned when the member leaves the cooperative. Shares may be withheld if there are outstanding charges or significant damage to the suite.

Suites

One bedroom

LJHC has four one-bedroom suites, approximately 608 sq ft each. Three of these suites are located on the south side of the building and one accessible suite is located on the north side of the building. These suites have one bathroom and a balcony or patio space. (The accessible suite is on the first floor and has a small patio.)

Two Bedroom

LJHC has twenty-four two-bedroom suites located on the south side of the building, approximately 829 sq ft each. These suites have washer/dryer hook-ups, one bathroom, and a balcony or patio space. Some suites feature a bay window in the smaller bedroom.

Three Bedroom

LJHC has eighteen three-bedroom suites. These suites are all located on the north side of the building, approximately 1038 sq ft each. All include a balcony or patio space, washer/dryer hookups, and one bathroom.​

Amenities

Our amenities are open to all members at no additional charge (except the laundry which has as a small per-load charge below market rates).

Workshop

Our workshop provides access to space and tools for members to work on their own projects, fix their bikes, and make things. It is also a space used by the Workshop and Maintenance Committees to work on projects that benefit the LJHC community as a whole.

Secure Bike Storage

We have limited locked space for bike parking and ebike charging.

Laundry Room

Our laundry room contains washers and dryers for use on a first-come first-server basis. There's a small per-load charge for usage.​

​

All suites also have laundry hook-ups. Members must provide their own machines.

Secure Underground Parking

We have a secure underground parking garage. Space is limited and assigned based on availability.
 

Unregulated street parking is also available directly adjacent to our building on E 2nd and McLean.

Common Room

Our Common Room provides space for meetings, social gatherings, children's parties, and private events.

​

It contains a kitchen, BBQ, comfortable seating area with couches and a coffee table, and open space for community-wide and private events.

Electric Car Charger

EV Charging

We don't have a Level 2 charger, but we do have a very limited number of parking stalls near 120v (Level 1) outlets that EVs may connect to. The LJHC charges a small monthly fee to use these outlets for EV charging.
 

There are nearby public chargers at Britannia Community Centre (level 2) and E 11th Street and Commercial Drive (level 3)​.
